Works "Vidas Indigenas" 2017-2022

My works usually take two to six month; that being said my Series "Vida Indigena: Del Nopal" took me about  seven and a half years to complete.

Del Nopal

Del Nopal

To be a girl is a challenge. Here we see a young girl sitting, with a sad look. She holds a pink flower and a knife next to her. Although she is in no harm, the light shines on her, relieving that she is blooming. However, she is surrounded by Nopales with thorns and tunas, that signify the males intentions to sweat talk and prick the vulnerable young victim.

Nina Descalsa

Nina Descalsa

Being raised in Mexico, most of the time I ran barefoot, however my grandmother always would say, “Ponte los zapatos, nina indigena” I never knew she meant it as a put-down. Being indigena should not be an insult but instead should be embraced. Here you see a young girl with a prideful soft look sitting on a rock. Gently, she plays with the dirt using a twig. Her feet sit on the soft ground with some grass growing. The evening is coming but only the left over light shines on her.

Las Ultimas Pitayas

Las Ultimas Pitayas

Exactly what it sounds like. The last fruit of the season is about to sell, and then what will she do? She is elderly and out there selling whats left of her product to survive. Many abuelitas and abuelitos are still in the streets of Mexico, lonely and poor trying to survive. Although my grandparents didn’t have to struggle this way, many viejitos don’t have that luxury.

El dia que perdi las Vacas

El dia que perdi las Vacas

There are kids in Mexico who don’t have the time to play a simple game of “Canicas”. In this painting this young boy plays a game of Canicas but realized the sun has gone down. Whats going to happen when he gets home. The responsibility of taking care of the cattle, was disrupted by a simple game. What are the consequences of being a child for a day? Only he knows, but at least he got to play a game.

Esperando la Muerte

Esperando la Muerte

Los viejitos left in Mexico suffer so much. They are left to fend for themselves, however even if the family helps them, being alone is more deadlier. Here we have a viejito with his shovel ready to die. All he has to do is just lay down, and if his lucky, someone may pas by and see his dead body and finish burring him.

La Relacion

La Relacion

Who is who? Is it him or is it her. I grew up with a strong woman role model. She owed her own business and he worked with her. Traditions where followed but traditions where also broken. Love was involved but so was lust, she was strong till the very end. Here we see both a man and woman. The woman is beautiful but hardworking, she stands tall and proud. He lets everyone know her place as a couple, and he stands strong and tall behind her with his machete to signify his still a threat and a man

This painting thanks Centeotl el Dios del Maiz. She presents him flowers and thanks him for a good harvest. This is also done in Mexico but they changed this gods name to a modern one after the conquista de Mexico.

Pensando...

Pensando...

A young boy looks into the night sky while holding a stone that represents his future

En ti!

En ti!

The young girl dreams of the future while laying in the darkness of the cerro wondering what caused the empty hole. Who took the object that completed the landscape, what was so important that it had to leave its location?

Vete a la Chingada, am out.

Vete a la Chingada, am out.

This painting represents some of the struggles that woman in Mexico and all over the world have to battle tthrough. The bushes with thorns are common in Mexico and they represent the mental, physical, emotional, ect struggles. We fight them all the time and have battle scars each time, but we get stronger and move on.
